 Joe and Leah's Big Day

April 24th, 2018

Joe and Leah On the deck outside of The Lodge at Welch Allyn

Joe and Leah's wedding was the perfect start to the wedding season.   No matter where we were, everyone was absolutely amazing and overwhelmingly friendly.  We started our day at The Hilton Garden Inn located in Auburn, New York where Joe, Leah, and their bridal party got pampered and dressed in their separate rooms.  Leah was in amazing hands getting her hair done by Jess and makeup by Sara of Crazy Beautiful Co.  Her stunning dress was from New York Bride & Co. and Joe's Tuxedo was through Men's Warehouse.

After everyone was ready, we made our way to Willard Chapel to commence the ceremony.  Willard Chapel is a beautiful and historic venue located in Auburn, New York.  The room where the ceremony was held was very intimate. As soon as you walk in, you're surrounded by friends and family. All eyes are on you as soon as you step in the room.

When the ceremony ended we took our family photos and then made our way to the reception.  Their reception was at The Lodge at Welch Allyn in Skaneateles, New York. If you haven't been to The Lodge before, it's an absolute treat.  Amazing lighting, delicious food and an outside landscape that is a photographers dream. The MC/DJ for their reception was CJ from Visa Versa.  He kept the day moving and entertained the guests throughout the night from the intros to last dance.

So, in our last blog post, we discussed a little about how you search for that magical photo.  Now we want to take it just a little bit further.  When you are looking at that amazing photo, you just see the amazing photo.  But what really goes into the creation of that photo? Well, let me take you through how I create a stunning picture.

The first thing we do is make sure everything is set up and ready for our shoot.  Remember the blog post, What it takes to get that magical photo, we have to hit the checklist and make sure its finalized. Next we start our photo shoot.

After your session is when the real work begins.  We have already selected the perfect location, have chose a stunning wardrobe and have taken lots of shots but now it's time to enhance what we've already done.  First let me show you what the photo looks like out of the camera before I touched it up.

What I did to make it look awesome!

And the After

It's not as simple as that, but its a start.  Some photos need more work and some need less. It all comes down to your photographer.  The better they are, the easier it is for them to make your photos magical.  Make sure you ask your photographer in advance what they can do and see if that is the style you want!

What I do to get that one of a kind photo...

You see it everywhere you look.  Those amazing photos that you are admiring for your photo shoot.  That have to have photo to put on the wall, but how do I get that photo? Let me tell you how you get it.

  • First things first, you need to figure out what kind of photo shoot you're going to do.
  • Once that is selected, you need to start your research.  Who is the photographer to do that job?  Can they re-create it? Honestly, every photographer has their own style.   You will need to find a photographer with a similar style to recreate your one of a kind photo.
  • Get yourself ready for your photo shoot, check out another blog I wrote.  Get your hair done, hire a makeup artist, get groomed, if your a guy.  You want to make sure you look your best.
  • Make sure your photographer has a shoot list of what you are trying to accomplish.  If they know the photos you want, there's a better chance you'll get them.
  • Trust your photographer.  You have your vision, but if you hired the right person, they will do their absolute best to give you amazing photos.
  • Wait for teasers or the results.  I know, waiting sucks, but let them do their job.  Editing takes a while and when you ask them in 3 hrs about teasers, it's kind of a distraction.  We need the time to carefully edit your photos because we want you to LOVE them. We've got this.

Writing the steps out is good and all, but let's see what that really looks like.

This is the simplified version, as there is a lot more that goes into it, but you get the point.  If you are looking for the photo that you want to show everyone, do a little bit of research.  You deserve amazing photos.

Getting ready for your photoshoot.

Congratulations, you have booked your session with your favorite photographer! Now, there may be a lot of things going through your mind, but let me help out.   If your a season vet at getting family photos taken, this is nothing new to you.  I'm sure you had this conversation before so now all you have to do is prepare and wait for your appointment.  If you new to getting your photos taken or its "been a while", I'm going to give you some Pointers and Tips, to make sure you look amazing for your shoot.

  • Be Organized - Make sure you know exactly what you looking to have photographed.  For example, if its a senior session, your senior knows if there are going to be props, special outfits, or another person with them.  if your photographer knows everything, your shoot will go with out delay.
  • What to wear - When your out on a shoot the last thing your want to be worried about is what your clothes look like.  The day before,  lay your clothes out, make sure they are ironed, and you get the accessories organized.  If your going for a theme, does your photographer know? I bet they would love to know that info.
  • Grooming - Getting these memories taken is an amazing thing.  Here are a few pointers to make sure that the little details don't ruin your shoot. Make sure hair for everyone is done and looking great.  Finger nails and tended to and if you wear nail polish, its done right.  Guys, if you have an amazing beard, make sure its fresh.
  • Special requests - Everyone has that amazing photo you saw in Pintrest, and you want that photo too.  Remember, your photographer may not have taken that shot and it would take them a minute to re-create it.  most of the time it will be close but it wont be exact.  If you photographer didn't shoot it.  Send them a photo or two ahead of time so they have time to see how it was done before you expect them to perform a miracle.  Side note: most of them posed shots take 5-10 mins to setup.
  • Makeup - If you are going to wear makeup, make sure you bring a small touch up kit with you.  Just in case.
  • Get Sleep - Get a good night’s sleep. Don’t drink alcohol or take any medication that will inhibit your sleep. And don’t stay up late. You want your face to look as fresh as possible, and your attitude to be bright and positive.
  • Children - Most of us, as photographers, have photographed many, many kids.  I'll also bet, most of us have them too.  If you kids are getting rowdy, its ok, we understand.  Kids are kids, and they don't want to sit/stand in front of a photographer for a long time.  Let the photographer take control and it will usually work out.  If not, let the photographer do it alone with the kid and parents distance yourself.  Kids usually act better with photographers while the parents are away ( but still in viewing distance).
  • Location - This is probably the toughest one.  Even before you think about your photo shoot, you need to find a place you like.  Photographers shoot all over the place but you need to see if your going to be looking for studio work or outside.  Each have their own advantages but what is best for you or your family.  Your location should be special to you.  maybe its your favorite place to go.  Worst case, just ask, we want that location to be amazing.

Ultimately, you and you alone can control what your photoshoot will look like. Follow these simple tips and you will get an amazing photo shoot!  If you want to book your session with us please message us

https://powersimages.zenfolio.com/blog/2017/1/take-a-selfie-break-and-get-professional Take a "Selfie" break and Get Professional!

With camera phones as readily available as they are, we all fall victim to being selfie queens/kings.  Give your arm or selfie stick a rest and go professional!  By hiring a professional photographer you will not only get amazing photos, but you will also get photographic memories that you alone aren't able to capture.  With an eye for detail and editing software to enhance the beauty of you and your surroundings, a professional will pull out all of the stops to get "that shot".

Remember, your only limitations are those you set.  Grab a friend, your family or a furry friend and create some memories.

Dream up a themed photo shoot like the one below.

Get dressed up and go somewhere you wouldn't normally go.

Express yourself the way only a photo can.

Empower yourself and embrace your beauty.

Go for a walk, seriously it can be that simple.  Have a photog shadow you and be amazed by the results.

So put down those selfie sticks and go see your favorite photographer today!

The Birth of The Village Studio

One of the most important things a photographer can have in his/her arsenal is an amazing studio.  For me, this would be my 3rd. The first 2... That story is for another time.

I've worked with Kaycee on a few different projects, I have photographed her family numerous times and we share the same goals.  We both want to be better photographers and expand our business and what we are capable of.  Recently, we photographed a wedding together.  During a spot of downtime before I dropped her off to groom prep we caught up with each other and I recorded it on my 2nd episode of "On the Road".

It was just after that when I knew that she would be the perfect person for a partnership.  Just days before that wedding I had become aware of a studio space that just came up for lease.  A week went by after the wedding and I threw out the message to Kaycee if she wanted to work together to create this amazing adventure.  Everything after that message has been a blur because everything has been moving along so fast.  The lease was signed and this is our story!
